JAMES Y. KIM

James is a registered patent attorney and primarily focuses his practice on intellectual property rights including patent, trademark, copyright and other IP rights. He has more than 20 years of intellectual property experience including extensive working experience in patent departments of multinational corporations. He also gained a wide range of experience in patent licensing and litigation matters, including formulating pre-litigation/litigation strategy, conducting mediations, and settlement negotiations, managing discovery, and preparing for trials.  In addition, James, as a registered engineer in the State of Washington, has significant experience in technology transfer & commercialization and related business transactions in a wide range of industries. He frequently lectures on a variety of patent issues and other IP topics for IP professionals in foreign countries to provide and promote a better understanding of US IP law and practice.

KALAI L. WINELAND

Kalai provides strategic and tactical advice for U.S. and international companies in the execution of patent and trademark strategies to achieve their business objectives. Her experience includes providing advice on patent  prosecution, licensing and litigation spanning a wide variety of subject matter, including semiconductor-related technologies, wireless and Internet-related software, biotechnology, electrical and mechanical devices. 

In addition to patent prosecution, She has extensive patent litigation experience, including participation in two patent infringement trials relating to software and semiconductors respectively. Kalai gained her experience from Heller Ehrman LLP and from working in a boutique patent prosecution practice. She was also an extern for the Honorable Barbara J. Rothstein in the Western District of Washington. Prior to her legal career, Ms. Wineland was an experienced engineer at the Boeing Company.

Tanner J. PARK

Tanner is a technical advisor in the firm’s patent prosecution group.  His work includes patent prosecution matters relating to software, computer architectures and semiconductors. He also advises on transactions involving intellectual property including acquisitions, carve-outs, and technology licensing. 

Prior to joining the firm, Tanner worked as a software developer at SportEdge LLC in Boston, where he designed a cross-platform mobile application for college sports recruiting using React Native and AWS Developed scalable web application using Django and a SQLite database, deploying on Heroku. He also worked as a Backend Developer for Framingham Public Schools in Boston, where he Implemented an assignment algorithm between over 700 students and 12 schools/programs based on the students' preferences and the available number of seats in schools/programs using Hungarian algorithm

Led weekly scrum meetings, ensured that non-technical clients understood what the development team was working on.

Tanner received a B.A. in Computer Science from Boston University and is currently enrolled in a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering of Boston University.
